Texas Instruments Engineering Change Management System

Texas Instruments

Business Need / Opportunity

Incremental design changes are causing multiple tooling NRE changes by vendors for same design and delay in substrates delivery.

Solution

A WEB-enabled program for combining several single-change inputs into one multiple-change input for specific part numbers based on users target schedule, priority and existing change inputs for that part number. Additionally, a WEB-enabled database allows easy input and tracks by project managers, package designers, procurement, process and manufacturing engineering within the change control group in US and Philippines.

Goals and Objectives

The objective of this project is to design and implement an Intranet WEB-enabled system for managing and organizing package design change inputs for DSP FCBGAs. The goal is to reduce the engineering and tooling costs associated with frequent incremental ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) by combining several "single-change" inputs into one "multiple-change" input for an ECR. Also, to better implement package changes by providing user inputs for schedule and priority targets, as well as tracking each change input by product.
